Discount Fares and Programs

Free and Reduced Fares

Half Fares $0.75

  • Seniors ages 65 and older with proof of age.
  • Persons with disabilities with a qualifying disabled identification such as a: Regional Transit Connection Discount ID Card, or a Department of Motor Vehicles Placard ID.
  • Medicare Card Holder with proof of enrollment.

Free Fares

  • Children ages 4 years and younger.
  • Youth ages 5 to 18. Proof of age required for high school age students. Must present valid school ID or DMV issued ID. If school does not offer an ID youth may acquire a special pass from their school.
  • Paratransit Users with a valid paratransit ID card.
  • Santa Rosa Junior College Students with valid student ID
  • U.S. Veterans with a Veterans Administration identification card or a Sonoma County Veterans identification card.
  • Employees of the City of Santa Rosa with proof of employment.
  • Employees of the County of Sonoma with proof of employment.

Fare Discount Programs

Clipper START

Clipper START is a pilot program to provide single-ride discounts to eligible riders. Participants receive a 50% discount on Bay Area public transit services. To be eligible you must:

  • Be a resident of the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Be between the ages of 19 and 64.
  • Not have an RTC Clipper card for people with disabilities.
  • Have a household income of 200% of the Federal poverty level or less.

Regional Transit Connection (RTC) Discount ID

The Regional Transit Connection (RTC) Discount ID Card is available to persons with qualifying disabilities. You may use the card as proof of eligibility to receive discount fares on fixed-route, rail and ferry systems throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. It is also a Clipper card, and you can add cash value or products. UR Free – Employers

  • Employers may purchase deeply discounted passes for their employees
  • Employers interested in providing unlimited access to their employees through this program should reach out to:

Transit Parking Discount

The Commuter Discounted Parking Permit provides approximately a 50% discounted permit for commuters who regularly use public transportation. The permit is for any transit commuter who can demonstrate over $25/month of Clipper activity.   A commuter would pay $31/month to park at both Lot 14 (5th and Morgan Street Lot), which is walking distance to SMART’s Downtown Station and at the Transit Mall Garage 12

Free Fare Days

CityBus, Sonoma County Transit, and Petaluma Transit offer free fare days throughout the year. There are four in total. Be on the lookout for updates on when the days are happening.

Transit Equity Day

Transit Equity Day is a national day of action observed on February 4th to commemorate the life and legacy of Rosa Parks on her birthday. Santa Rosa CityBus, Petaluma Transit, and Sonoma County Transit honor Rosa Parks legacy and contributions to transit equity by inviting everyone to ride Fare-Free on all regular public bus routes all day on February 4th each year.

California Clean Air Day

Take the individual pledge to challenge yourself to take the actions we know are essential to clean air, like taking transit or shopping local. To help you achieve your clean air goals Santa Rosa CityBus and Sonoma County Transit are offering free transit on Wednesday October 2, 2024.

Earth Day

Every day should be Earth Day but for the nationally recognized day CityBus, Sonoma County Transit, and Petaluma Transit offer free dares. Earth Day is April 22, 2024 but free fares will be offered on April 20, 2024 so you can make an eco friendly mode choice to get to all the amazing events around Sonoma County.
